Well, it’s January. Already.
This past month my work has highlighted, the importance of words and their definitions.
During training sessions, I ask learners to work in small groups and reach agreement on definitions for the words ‘always, never, and sometimes’. What percentage of time does something need to occur to be considered ‘always’ etc. Invariably, the discussions demonstrate that these generic words mean different things to different people. The exercise helps learners understand the importance of clarity in communication. The words that I’m working with now are ‘forgiveness’ and ‘reconciliation’. These words are so very important in our world, even with variations in the definition.
I am humbled by the resilience and determination of people who tackle complex system issues day after day. I am thankful for my work which has led to hope-filled conversations with people across Canada. Happy New Year, everyone.
